What causes
Heart Attack
A heart attack, also known as a myocardial infarction, is typically caused by a blockage in one or more coronary arteries.
This blockage prevents oxygen-rich blood from reaching a section of the heart muscle, leading to damage or death of the heart muscle cells.
The most common cause of this blockage is the buildup of fatty deposits (plaque) on the walls of the coronary arteries, a condition known as atherosclerosis.

Malaysian at very

high risk
Heart disease is a significant cause of premature death among Malaysians. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) report, the number of deaths due to ischemic heart attack in 2022 is 20,322, which is 16.1% of the medically certified deaths.
It's concerning that ischemic heart disease is increasingly affecting younger individuals. Patients as young as 30 to 35 years old can now experience severe heart attacks requiring emergency coronary angioplasty (A procedure that clears blockages in the heart's blood vessels using balloons and stents.) Early recognition of symptoms and prompt medical intervention are crucial in managing heart health, even at a younger age.
